At Optum, we’re opening the door to a new chapter in digital health. We’re excited to invite partners, developers, and innovators to join us as we roll out our next-generation API platform — designed to enable smarter, faster, and more connected healthcare solutions across the UK.

Our vision is to build a unified technology platform that brings together all Optum-Partner products. This platform is focused on reusability, ease of integration, and a seamless developer experience — supporting faster innovation, improved clinical workflows and, most importantly, better outcomes for patients.

You may already work with Optum technologies, or you might be exploring how to integrate with our systems for the first time. Either way, our goal is to make it easy for you to get started, scale your integration, and stay aligned with the future of UK healthcare.

What’s happening now?

EMIS-X is the next generation clinical system that will gradually replace EMIS Web and other EMIS clinical systems used to support the delivery of healthcare. EMIS-X is built on cloud technology and user insight to improve innovation and offer a seamless user experience at the point of care.

Our EMIS-X companion application has already been successfully deployed to GP practices across England. It brings real benefits to clinicians and continues to expand its capabilities. (You can learn more about EMIS-X on the Optum UK YouTube channel.)

We are actively working on modernising our interoperability capabilities. The first phase of which is launching a RESTful interface for the existing EMIS Web Partner APIs — giving you a modern integration point that’s easier to use and maintain. This will be combined with a new authentication module (EMIS-X AuthN).
