Overview

The Patient models provide the foundation for understanding information about a patient, their relationship with a healthcare organisation, and whether they should be included within a particular analysis or use case.

In a real-world primary care setting, a patient’s journey extends beyond the clinical events recorded during consultations, prescriptions, or observations. Patients register with practices, update demographic information, change address, move organisations, amend data-sharing preferences, and may change practices throughout. These changes form an important part of the patient’s healthcare record and provide the context needed to interpret clinical activity correctly.

The patient models bring together this information into a consistent representation that can be used with all other models, ensuring that patient demographics, registration status, confidentiality settings, and data-sharing preferences are applied consistently throughout.

ModelDescription
PatientThe Patient model provides the authoritative current-state view of a patient within an organisation. It contains demographic details, healthcare identifiers, registration information, GP assignment, geography, deprivation indicators, patient status flags, confidentiality indicators, and data-sharing preferences.
Patient Registration HistoryThe Patient Registration History model provides historical registration type and status entries for a patient within an organisation. It supports analysis of how a patient has moved through the registration lifecycle over time, including registered, left, deceased, and non-regular registration states.
Patient Filter Options / Patient ScopeThe Patient Filter model provides a simplified view focused on patient eligibility, acting as a reference view for all patients eligible to be included in a customer schema based on the DSA Filters.
Please note for some flavours this model also includes data-sharing status and registration flags for customers to self-serve downstream on inclusion filtering, and is called Patient Optout Status.
