Overview
This section describes the appointment model set used across iPCV flavours. It captures how appointments are scheduled, delivered, and managed in EMIS-sourced data. These models provide a connected picture of session context, staff participation, and slot-level activity.
The model set supports operational reporting on capacity, utilisation, cancellations, delays, and DNA, and also supports workforce and patient journey analysis from scheduling through to attendance outcomes.
At a high level, each day is structured into appointment sessions, and each session contains a set of appointment slots. A slot may be available, blocked, booked, or associated with an attendance outcome. Completed appointments can then be linked to consultation or care activity for downstream analysis.
The appointment models can be used to answer questions such as:
- How many sessions were available on a given day, and what was their clinical or operational purpose?
- Which clinicians or roles were associated with each session?
- How many slots were booked, unfilled, cancelled, or recorded as DNA?
- Which appointments were delivered in person versus virtually, and how did demand change over time?
- How does booked activity compare with planned session capacity?
Models in this group
Section titled “Models in this group”| Model | Description |
|---|---|
| Appointment Session | Represents the scheduled session-level container for planned activity, including session timing, category, organisation, location, and key capacity metrics. This model is the default anchor for understanding planned appointment activity. |
| Appointment Session User | Captures the many-to-many relationship between appointment sessions and users or roles, enabling analysis of who was associated with a session and how staffing is distributed across service delivery. |
| Appointment Slot | Represents the individual units within a session and includes booking status, attendance outcomes, scheduling metadata, and operational indicators such as booked, blocked, DNA, or available states. |
