Definition
The Sensitive SNOMED Code model provides a reference set of SNOMED CT codes classified as clinically sensitive, enabling controlled handling and consistent filtering of sensitive coded data across downstream applications.
Information
Section titled “Information”The model is derived by identifying codes designated as sensitive within a SNOMED CT refset or the Summary Care Record (SCR) dataset. It includes SNOMED CT concept IDs and their corresponding EMIS code IDs for clinical areas considered sensitive which includes gender-related conditions, assisted fertilisation, termination of pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
Below are the reference sets that are considered sensitive by the NHS:
| Reference Set ID | Description |
|---|---|
| 999004351000000109 | gender related issues |
| 999004371000000100 | assisted fertilisation |
| 999004361000000107 | termination of pregnancy |
| 999004381000000103 | sexually transmitted disease |
Grain and Scope
Section titled “Grain and Scope”Each row is a unique sensitive snomed code record and each record is uniquely identified by code_id column.
This model includes the following key identifiers:
- code_id: The unique EMIS identifier for the clinical code.
The following fields are important for tracking data lineage and freshness:
-
is_deleted: Indicates whether the sensitive snomed code record has been deleted at source.
-
transform_datetime: The timestamp indicating when the record was last processed and updated in the data model. This field is crucial for understanding the current state of the data.
Things to be aware of
Section titled “Things to be aware of”-
Reference set Concept List Updates: SNOMED CT concepts associated with each reference set can change over time; these changes will be absorbed in an EMIS MKB update.
-
Sensitive Snomed Code Mapping Updates: Mapping of EMIS code ids to SNOMED CT can change over time; EMIS MKB is updated monthly and may include relevant updates, with more changes expected when releases coincide with NHS SNOMED CT updates.
Examples
Section titled “Examples”Selecting a concept ID
SELECT *FROM hive.explorer_ipcv_vanilla.sensitive_snomed_code_v2WHERE snomed_concept_id = 2007581000006106;Finding concept IDs with more than one code ID
SELECT snomed_concept_idFROM hive.explorer_ipcv_vanilla.sensitive_snomed_code_v2GROUP BY snomed_concept_idHAVING count(emis_code_id) > 1;Finding the terms of the example code
SELECT ssc.snomed_concept_id, cc.fully_specified_name, ssc.emis_code_id, cc.termFROM hive.explorer_ipcv_vanilla.sensitive_snomed_code_v2 AS ssc JOIN hive.explorer_ipcv_vanilla.codeable_concept_v2 AS cc ON ssc.emis_code_id = cc.emis_code_idWHERE ssc.snomed_concept_id = 2007581000006106;
